Objective:
To prepare Mattieu’s deeply personal memoir for publication by editing and laying out the interior pages, ensuring the emotional tone, technical clarity, and flow matched the depth and intention of his journey — Light From Darkness.
Client Requirement:
Matt wanted a clean, professional layout that would let the words — and weight — of his story shine.
He needed support with technical editing, attention to pacing and structure, and a layout that allowed readers to feel immersed in both the physical and emotional aspects of his journey.
Sensitivity was key: this wasn’t just about grammar and margins; it was about honouring a vulnerable, brave story.
Design Process:
After an initial coffee meeting (where Matt’s passion was absolutely contagious), I dove into the manuscript with a focus on clarity, consistency, and emotional flow.
We provided detailed technical edits to ensure readability, questioned gaps or moments that needed more context, and worked closely with Matt to make sure nothing important stayed locked inside his head — it all needed to make it onto the page.
Once edits were finalized, we completed the pagination and interior layout for print, making sure the final book was clean, professional, and true to his voice. A project like this isn’t just a job; it’s a privilege.
